Social Welfare Christmas Payment Arrangements 2012

The Department of Social Protection has announced its Christmas Payment Arrangements for 2012.

Office Open Hours/Days

The Department's offices will be CLOSED on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 25 December - CLOSED
  • Wednesday 26 December - CLOSED
  • Tuesday 1 January 2012 - CLOSED.

Christmas Signing Arrangements for Jobseekers Customers - Jobseekers Allowance / Benefit

Signing is suspended for all customers due to sign in the four-week period from Monday 10th December 2012 until Friday 4th January 2013. The next signing dates are as follows:

Other signing frequencies

Customers who sign other than on a monthly basis and who are due to sign between Monday 10th December 2012 and Friday 4th January 2013 are excused signing for that period and will be advised of their next signing date.

Postal signers - dockets

Signing for postal signers is suspended from Monday 10th December 2012 until Fridayth 4 January 2013. If a postal signing customer's next signing day falls during this period, the customer will not receive a docket. However, their next docket will cover an eight-week period.

Customers working casually

Casual customers are advised to return dockets for the weeks-ending 11/12, 18/19 and 25/26 December to their local office by 10th December to ensure continuous payment over the Christmas period. As dockets are produced in advance in batches of 4 customers may receive dockets for these dates over separate mailings.

Weekly Payments

All customers paid weekly (excluding Carer Benefit Customers) will receive their normal payment(s) and an advance payment during the week beginning Monday 10th December, 2012. The advance payment will be the payment(s) due in the week beginning Monday 17th December 2012.

  • Payments due for collection week commencing the 24th December 2012 may be collected on your normal collection day during the week beginning the 17th December 2012.
  • Payments due for Tuesday 1 January 2013 may be collected from Monday 31 December 2012.

Carers Benefit Customers

  • Payments due for Thursday 13 December 2012 may be collected from Thursday 13 December 2012.
  • Payments due for Thursday 20 & 27 December 2012 may be collected from Thursday 20 December 2012.

Normal payment dates will resume from Wednesday 2 January 2013.

Monthly Payments

Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) Monthly Payments

Payments due for collection week commencing the 24 December 2012 may be collected on your normal collection day during the week beginning the 17 December 2012


Child Benefit and Household Benefit Payments

Payments due for collection on Tuesday 1 January 2013 may be collected on Wednesday 2 January 2013.


Payment directly to an account in a financial institution - (Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT))

Weekly Payments

Customers paid weekly will receive their normal payment(s) and an advance payment during the week beginning Monday 10 December, 2012. The advance payment will be the payment(s) due in the week beginning Monday 17th December 2012 (excluding Carers Benefit, Disablement Benefit, Maternity Benefit and Health & Safety Benefit Payments).

  • Payments for Maternity Benefit and Health & Safety Benefit due Thursday 20 December 2012 will be paid on the Monday 17 December 2012.
  • All payments due the week commencing 24 December 2012 will be paid on your normal payment day the week commencing 17 December 2012.
  • Payments due on Monday 31 December 2012 for Jobseekers Allowance, Jobseekers Benefit, Illness Benefit, Partial Capacity Benefit and Supplementary Welfare Allowance will be paid on Friday 21 December 2012.
  • Payments due on Tuesday 1 January 2013 for Jobseekers Allowance, Jobseekers Benefit, Illness Benefit, Partial Capacity Benefit and Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance will be paid on Monday 31 December 2012.
  • Payments for Child Benefit and Household Benefit due on Tuesday 1 January 2013 will be paid on Tuesday 1 January 2013.

Maternity Benefit

  • Customers due their payment on Thursday 13 December 2012 will be paid their payment on 13 December 2012.
  • Customers due their payment on Thursday 20 December 2012 will be paid their payment on Monday 17 December 2012.
  • Customers due their payment on Thursday 27 December 2012 will be paid their payment on Thursday 20 December 2012.

Carers Benefit

  • Customers due their payment on Thursday 13 December 2012 will receive their payment on 13 December 2012.
  • Customers will receive their normal payment and an advance payment on Thursday 20 December 2012. The advance payment will be the payment due on the 27 December 2012.
  • Disablement Benefit
  • Customers due their payment on Friday 14 December 2012 will receive their payment on 14 December 2012.
  • Customers will receive their normal payment and an advance payment on Friday 21 December 2012. The advance payment will be the payment due on the 28 December 2012.
  • Normal payment dates will resume from Wednesday 3 January 2012.

Monthly Payments

  • Monthly Payments due for collection week commencing the 24 December 2012 will be paid on your normal payment day during the week beginning the 17 December 2012.

Foreign EFT Payments

Foreign payments due the week commencing the 24 December 2012 will be paid the week commencing 17 December 2012.
