Shock at the closure of CG Services in Cork
19 Feb 2004
The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed is very disappointed to learn of the closure of the CG Services in Co.Cork with the loss of 120 jobs. This is in addition to the other Cork job losses announced recently including 100 jobs in Jet Magic, and 170 in Schering Plough.
‘This number of job losses is a huge blow to these employees and to the Cork region in general. It is very worrying to see this trend of redundancies continue to rise and it is affecting all economic sectors,’ said Ms June Tinsley, Policy Officer, INOU. ‘The Government is not taking sufficient action to stem this rise in redundancies and to provide alternative employment opportunities in these localities for these skilled workers. Additional resources and supports must be available to these redundant workers to ensure that they do not regress into a state of long-term unemployment.’
Ms Tinsley added that any newly redundant person seeking advice on their statutory entitlements along with information on how to re-enter the labour market or how to access training and education should contact the INOU directly on 8560088 or their local resource centre for the unemployed for further details.
