Live Register Increases by 3,100 in March 2005
5 Apr 2005
The latest seasonally adjusted Live Register figures show that an additional 3,100 people claimed an unemployment payment in March. This increase is bucking the recent trends of monthly reductions in the numbers unemployed. However, the annual decrease of 11,300 is welcome.
‘Naturally any increase in the Live Register figures is a matter of concern and gives further proof that Ireland has not attained the status of ‘full employment’ that is widely stated by commentators and politicians,’ said June Tinsley, INOU Policy Officer. ‘With 159,000 people claiming an unemployment payment, there should be no room for the Government to be complacent in assisting these people to participate in the labour market, through training, education, job opportunities etc.’
This monthly increase is made up of an increase of 2,200 females and 900 males.
