Delegates Vote for INOU to accept New Partnership Agreement
7 Sep 2006
The membership of the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed (INOU) today voted overwhelmingly to accept the new National Agreement, Towards 2016 at an INOU Special Delegate Conference held in Dublin.
“It is clear that the INOU membership strongly supports the INOU involvement in Social Partnership to achieve the best results for unemployed people” said Ann Fergus, INOU Chairperson. “The Organisation also recognises that much work remains to be done if we are to ensure that the commitments outlined in Towards 2016 are delivered” added Ms. Fergus.
The INOU’s role as a Social Partner will allow the organisation to be best placed to ensure that the employment, training, education and income needs of unemployed people during the course of Towards 2016 are met. “We will work to ensure the targets agreed in Towards 2016 are achieved” said Eric Conroy, INOU General Secretary. “In particular, we will prioritise the delivery of both substantial increases in the levels of social welfare payments and significant increases in employment related supports for unemployed people,’ added Mr Conroy.
