14 Sep 2010
Today, the Minister for Social Protection Éamon Ó Cuív, T.D. launched the 17th edition of the INOU's flagship publication 'Working for Work'. In welcoming the Minister to Araby House Chair of the INOU, Ann Fergus thanked his Department, FÁS and the Department of Education and Skills for the necessary funding to produce this publication. "Working for Work is an invaluable resource both to unemployed people and people working on the ground trying to tackle unemployment," noted Ann.
'Working for Work' is a comprehensive handbook for unemployed people and those providing information services to them. It outlines unemployed people's rights and entitlements with regard to their social welfare payments and secondary benefits. It provides valuable information and advice on their further education or training options and supports available when looking for work.
"At a time of unprecedented unemployment and a deepening financial crisis, it is imperative that Government strives to create jobs and offer unemployed people real hope for the future," said John Stewart, Co-ordinator with the INOU. "A key element of this hope would be the provision of a range of options that an unemployed person can opt into," continued John. "It is vital that social welfare and employment services are re-configured to meet the needs of the unemployed person, and this would provide for the most effective use of resources," he concluded.
