John Sweeney, Labour Market Economist
John Sweeney did his PhD on the role of monetary and non-monetary factors in the labour market choices of low-skilled workers in the EU. He has worked on Irish labour market issues since the 1970s and produced reports for a variety of bodies, including when working full time, 2002-2015, for the National Economic and Social Council (NESC). For example, he is the principal author of The Developmental Welfare State (NESC, 2005), The Irish Economy in the Early 21st Century (NESC, 2008), A Strategic Review of Further Education and Training for the Unemployed (DES, 2013), Employment and Skills Strategies in Ireland (OECD, 2014) and Job Creation and Job Quality in Ireland (NYCI, 2016). He is a member of the Labour Market Council.
