INOU launches its Pre-Budget Submission

The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed are pleased to launch their pre-Budget submission for 2004. Being reflective of the current economic climate and the labour market particularly, specific areas of attention focus on job creation, enhanced employment supports for unemployed people and a rise in the level of payments for those dependent on social welfare.

'We are calling on the Government to redress the enlarging gap between the rich and poor in Irish society by prioritising resources to those most in need’, said June Tinsley, Policy Officer INOU. ‘The Government through this Budget will have to demonstrate their commitment to social partnership by making inroads towards the attainment of commitments stated Sustaining Progress, particularly increasing the lowest social welfare payment significantly to be on target to reach €150 in 2002 terms by 2007’.
