Of major concern for delegates to the conference are the maintenance of social welfare rates; the restoration of the Christmas bonus; and, improved access to welfare payments and related opportunities including for migrant workers. "The INOU welcomes the Government's expressed concern at protecting the most vulnerable and restoration of the Christmas bonus would be a gesture of good faith in this regard," noted John Stewart, Co-ordinator with the INOU.

At this time of crisis it is vitally important that all those affected by and able to address unemployment are working together in partnership. "Delegates are particularly concerned that such work seeks to address unemployment equitably and inclusively," noted Bríd O'Brien, Head of Policy and Media with the INOU. "We urgently need an integrated response at both the local and national levels so that the education and training programmes unemployed people are being encouraged to go on now will lead to employment later on," Bríd continued
