"YES TO JOBS, NO TO CUTS"

26 Nov 2012

It is clear from the deepening unemployment crisis that the Government's, the Troika's and the EU's austerity approach to the current crisis will not get people back to work. In fact it is having the opposite effect as more and more people struggle with the personal, familial and communal impact of long-term unemployment.

On Saturday, 24th November the INOU marched along with colleagues from other non-government organisations, community groups and trade unions against these futile policies. For too long the social impact of these policies has been underplayed, yet as we know from past experience there are significant economic costs when they are left unaddressed. This is particularly visible at the local level where community groups struggle with increasing demand for their supports and services while their own funding has been cut.

So the three key issues for the INOU in this demonstration are:

  • INVESTMENT IN JOBS
  • NO TO CUTS IN SOCIAL PROTECTION
  • MAINTENANCE OF VITAL LOCAL COMMUNITY SERVICES
