Building Futures ART expo at Finglas Festival 2016 a great success

INOU working in collaboration with the Finglas Festival

For a second year running the Finglas Festival kindly facilitated our Building Futures exhibition.  Building Futures is an innovative Local Training Initiative leading to a Major Award in Community Development at QQI Level 5. With the focus on community development, the Building Futures participants undertake a module in Community Arts Context and Practice. This module equips the learner with the underpinning knowledge, skills and competence to work in a community arts context utilising their own creativity and a range of arts practices. The course also enables participants to become peer educators, trainers and mentors in the community.

As part of their Community Arts Context and Practice module, these students created a series of artworks to commemorate the civilian losses during the 1916 rising. Each participant created artwork from a combination of found, reused and man-made materials to represent and tell the story of some of the innocents who lost their lives during the 1916 rising. In response to the theme, the students have brought new life to the materials and given new perspectives on a dark period of Irish history.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to come and view our work
