About Surmodics

Life sciences technologies company Surmodics is to create 100 new jobs in Ireland over the next five years. The news follows its acquisition of Creagh Medical in Ballinasloe, Galway in November of last year.

The jobs will add to the Minnesota company's 32 staff based in Galway.

The expansion is part of a major €7m investment by the company into its Irish facility. The firm said it will also pump another €9.5m into two research and development projects at the Galway base.

Tom Greaney was previously CEO of Creagh Medical and has joined Surmodics as VP of Global Operations and General Manager of the Ballinasloe operation.

The expansion has been described as "a major boost for the future of the town" .

"The creation of 100 jobs in Ballinasloe is the equivalent of 1,000 jobs for Galway City, but what is far more significant is the fact that these jobs are in the medical device sector which allows the town of Ballinasloe to attract additional investment from the two existing medical device hubs in Athlone and Galway," said Minister Naughten.
