The INOU has listed Job announcements countrywide since 2012 on the dedicated Jobs Watch section on inou.ie. The INOU Jobs Researcher tracks the announcement of jobs through a range of different media. When organisations announce they are creating jobs, we list the name of the company; the county; the proposed number of jobs and a further details section. The further details section includes the company’s contact details, information on when the jobs take effect and the company’s website. Recruitment to some of the jobs announced will be immediate, but in other instances the jobs announced may not take effect for six months or one or more years.
While the jobs listed on the Jobs Watch page are useful to provide some information on job announcements, they are not the totality of jobs being announced, but the job announcements that we find or are notified about.
In 2018, the INOU listed 385 Companies that were announcing 45,236 jobs. 209 Companies announced that they planned to create 45,236 jobs and we also listed 176 Companies were the number of jobs being announced were unstated or unknown.
The Chart above illustrates the significance of Dublin in relation to the job announcements we captured. Almost 60% of the jobs announced were Dublin based. A further 16% of the jobs were countrywide where they were in a number of locations. 13% in Munster was next highest, followed by 6% in the rest of Leinster outside Dublin, 4% in Connaught and 3% in Ulster.
