INOU 2027 Pre-Budget Submission
The INOU’s Pre-Budget Submission highlights the permanent, targeted measures needed for Unemployed People in Budget 2027.
Despite the consistent strong performance of the labour market, what cannot be ignored is the reality of the almost 150,000 people in Ireland who are looking for work and cannot find suitable employment. Almost 1 in 5 of these people are living in consistent poverty.
Evidence repeatedly shows that people take up work if they have the opportunity to do so; quality jobs and supports are now needed more than ever with the ongoing economic uncertainty. Our submission provides the way forward for Government to allow people to live in dignity, and to access quality, sustainable employment opportunities.
Our key priorities for Making Progress Inclusive:
- Address increasing rates of poverty: Maintain the value of Working-Age income supports with a €15 increase.
- Make work pay: Change the rules of Jobseeker's Allowance income disregards which haven't been changed in twenty years.
- Expand opportunities to work: Provide travel passes and improve the quality all back to work schemes, to let people access opportunities for employment, education and training.
