Choosing My Future: Breaking the Cycle of Uncertainty in Young Adults

ChoosingMyFuture picture1 In this article Ballymun Jobs Centre informs INOU e-bulletin readers of their service 'Choosing My Future' and other developments. In a world filled with choices, the path to a sustainable and meaningful career can often be daunting for young adults aged 18-30. Many find themselves caught in a cycle of entering low-paid, low-skilled positions, which can lead to financial dependence and, ultimately, reliance on social welfare. Recognising this challenge, our service, Choosing My Future, aims to provide impartial voluntary career guidance using a newly developed career guidance model, Model of Enabling Employment Guidance (MEEG) ( click here to read more about the MEEG on the INOU website ), to empower young individuals in making informed decisions for a brighter future.

At the core of our service is the commitment to break the cycle of uncertainty by offering personalised one-on-one guidance with experienced practitioners. Understanding the unique needs of each individual, we tailor workshops and events that encompass a broad spectrum of skills necessary for career success.

Soft skills play a crucial role in professional development, and Choosing My Future offers a variety of workshops focusing on communication, team building, public speaking, professional networking and presentations etc. Additionally, we have access to a state-of-the-art Virtual Reality (VR) lab which provides a unique opportunity for users to practice interview techniques with an AI avatar and receive feedback based on AI analysis. This innovative approach enhances real-world readiness, ensuring our clients feel confident and well-prepared for job interviews and professional interactions.

To bridge the gap between academia and industry, Choosing My Future organises career fairs and events that connect young adults with employers. These initiatives allow participants to gain valuable insights into various industries, understand what a 'day in the life' looks like in different professions, and establish meaningful connections with potential employers.

Beyond the professional sphere, Choosing My Future recognises the importance of addressing personal development. We conduct group workshops focusing on wellness, self-esteem, and motivation. These sessions aim to empower individuals to overcome obstacles, set meaningful goals, and cultivate a positive mindset necessary for sustained success.

Choosing My Future is not just a career guidance service; it's a holistic approach to personal and professional development. By addressing the multifaceted needs of our clients, we strive to empower young adults to break free from the cycle of uncertainty, ensuring they not only secure meaningful careers but also build a foundation for financial independence and long-term success.

In a world where choices define our future, Choosing My Future stands as a beacon of support, guiding young adults towards a future filled with possibilities and fulfilment.
