The INOU Learning Hub is about so much more than education and training, it’s about creating a welcoming, supportive and enjoyable space where learners can connect, build confidence and feel part of a community. Throughout the year, we make sure to incorporate fun and social activities alongside learning, helping to create a positive environment where everyone feels comfortable and included. It also gives learners from both the Shaping Futures and Building Futures programmes the opportunity to spend time together, get to know one another and build friendships across the Learning Hub. Here are just some of the events and activities we have enjoyed together so far this year.

Celebrating Friendship & Joy: Our Valentine’s Day Event
Valentine’s Day is often seen as a day just for romantic love, but for learners, it’s the perfect chance to celebrate all kinds of love: friendship, kindness, connection and the joy of being part of a community. This year, we brought that warm, inclusive spirit right to the heart of Dublin, hosting our learner Valentine’s celebration at the Learning Hub.
From the start, our goal was simple: to create an event where everyone felt included and could take part comfortably. All activities, snacks and small gifts were provided free of charge, helping to make the day welcoming and accessible for everyone. We also wanted to move away from the pressure often associated with “romantic Valentine’s”, so instead we focused on the theme of “Love & Friendship: Celebrate Everyone Who Matters”.
Flavours, Fun & Friendship: Our Pancake Tuesday Celebration
Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday, is one of those days that everyone looks forward to. Traditionally a day to use up rich ingredients before Lent, it has become a celebration of food, fun and bringing people together. This year, we took the opportunity to turn it into something even more special at the INOU Learning Hub, creating a vibrant and welcoming event that celebrated the diversity, culture and strong sense of community among our learners.
Our main goal this year wasn’t just to serve pancakes, it was to embrace every culture, celebrate our differences and show that food is the best language we all speak. Learners come from every corner of the world, and we wanted everyone to see our traditions and stories represented.
Take a Book, Share a Book
There is something special about opening a book. It can transport you somewhere new, teach you something different, or simply offer a quiet moment to switch off. That’s why our new book-sharing shelf gives learners the opportunity to pick up a book, swap one, or simply enjoy reading during their time at the Learning Hub. It’s a simple idea, but one that helps make reading accessible, relaxed and available to everyone.
Why did we set up the Bookshelf? We want to remove that barrier. Here, you can borrow books for free, keep them for weeks, return them and take more, no fees, no subscriptions, no cost at all. Whether it’s a textbook you need for an assignment or a novel you want to read on the weekend, it’s yours to enjoy, for nothing.
Clothing Drive: Bargains for a Great Cause
In April we hosted a wonderful clothing drive right here at The Learning Hub, with one clear, meaningful goal: to raise funds for St Vincent de Paul, an organisation that does vital work supporting individuals and families in need across our community.
We were absolutely blown away by the response. Learners and staff, donated bags and bags of high-quality items, everything from casual wear, jackets, and jumpers to smart outfits, accessories. Every piece was checked, sorted, and displayed neatly, turning the space into a bustling pop-up shop full of hidden gems and great finds. For learners, it was the perfect opportunity: you could pick up fantastic clothes at bargain prices. Many learners told us how much they loved the idea, getting great value while helping people right here in our local area. The atmosphere throughout the day was warm, busy, and full of good spirit. By the end of the event, we had raised over €100 for St Vincent de Paul.
