INOU Publishes the 32nd Edition of Working for Work
Minister Dara Calleary has launched the INOU’s 32nd Edition of Working for Work. The indispensable handbook remains the only comprehensive publication that brings together the wide range of supports available for unemployed people trying to return to work, education or training.
At the launch, the Minister noted:
“I am delighted to launch the latest edition of Working for Work, a valuable resource that has been supporting jobseekers, frontline services and employers for more than three decades. As people move into employment, education or training, it is vital that they have access to clear, accurate and practical information on the range of supports available to them. This publication plays an important role in helping people understand their entitlements and opportunities, and in making the transition to work as straightforward as possible.
I want to acknowledge the continued commitment of the INOU, together with SOLAS and my Department, in ensuring that this trusted resource remains available to those who need it most.
My Department is committed to supporting people to participate fully in work and society. Working for Work continues to make an important contribution to that objective by helping people navigate the pathways to employment, education and training.”
Funded by SOLAS and the Department of Social Protection, up to 18,000 copies of Working for Work will be distributed by the INOU across the country this year. Working for Work outlines people’s rights and entitlements about social protection supports and services; provides information on activation supports and programmes; and describes what is available for people making the welfare to work journey.
Unemployed people, front-line staff both in the state and community sector, and employers all rely on this handbook to navigate the increasingly complex system of social welfare and employment supports. INOU Affiliate Organisations, Intreo Centres / Intreo Partners, Citizens Information and MABS, all receive copies of Working for Work.
Jason Delaney, Galway City Partnership’s Local Area Employment Services said: “The Working for Work resource is so important for our clients and for our staff. Having a printed resource to hand helps us to provide the accurate and timely information our clients need. Welfare and employment supports are getting harder to navigate with most resources only available online, so Working for Work is needed now more than ever.”
Commemorating Ann Fergus
At the launch, the INOU’s Training Room was renamed in honour of Ann Fergus, former INOU Chairperson, who passed away in August 2023. Joanne Farrell, Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre and current INOU Chairperson noted that Ann was a great champion of Working for Work.
Joanne said “Ann was involved in the work of the INOU almost 30 years. She was a tireless and fearless advocate for unemployed people, her enormous contribution to the work of the INOU is impossible to measure.”
We were delighted to welcome members of Ann's family to this occasion, and to recognise her valuable contributions to the work of the INOU and to people in unemployment.
