Irish tech company Codec is planning to acquire two new companies – one in infosec and the other in enterprise resource planning (ERP) – and plans to hire 100 people in the year ahead.

The company, previously known as Codec DSS, is expanding fast and earlier this year announced 50 new jobs in Galway as part of a €2.5m investment after acquiring Vulcan Solutions a year earlier.

Codec, recently named Microsoft Partner of the Year, already employs more than 180 people across seven offices in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway, London, Poland and Germany.

It said it is planning to recruit a further 80 employees which it will ramp up in the first quarter of 2018.

Codec said it hopes to have these new hires by end of January 2018.

Codec was founded in 1985 by Tony Stafford and the business is now run by his son, Ronan.

In the past quarter, accumulated sales generated over €10.2m, with the company winning business in areas such as banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals, e-tail and with government agencies in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The company is driving a lot of its new business towards the cloud and sales for the period quarter three are in excess 350pc mainly due to Codec’s new business wins in the etail sector.
