THE Taoiseach was on the Southside last week where he helped turn the first sod on a complex of 19 new apartments at Beech Hill, Donnybrook.

The Voluntary Housing Association of the Royal Hospital Donnybrook, RHD Housing, is working with Dublin City Council and the Department of Housing, Planning & Local Government to refurbish and extend the vacant Dublin City Council site.

RHD Housing has received planning permission for developing the site, which will also include a range of community facilities.

It is hoped to have the complex built by September of next year. The completion of the project will bring to 68 units the overall number of housing units provided by RHD Housing.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of RHD Housing, Robin Simpson, said: “Over the life of our Strategic Plan, we aim to acquire/build, or to have, an additional 130 units in the pipeline, bringing our total to approximately 200 in order to meet the demand arising from an increase in the number of older people living in our area.”
