Women are being invited to apply for up to 50 "rewarding" jobs in the motor industry in an attempt to address the male-female imbalance.

A number of Ford dealers are looking to recruit as many as 50 new technicians and apprentices to help meet a high level of demand for servicing and maintenance of their vehicles Apprentice candidates will qualify for the brand's master technician training programme at its academy in Naas, Co Kildare.

David Pimlott, director of customer service at Ford Ireland, says: "This is a fantastic opportunity to join Ireland's biggest network of car dealerships. Our dealers would be delighted to receive applications from young ladies who might be interested in a career with the Ford network.

As well as taking on new, unqualified apprentices, some dealers are hoping to recruit trained technicians with "cutting-edge software, electronic and electrical skills".
